Statement on World Day of Social Justice | 20 February

Advocates4Earth joins the rest of the world in commemorating the World Day of Social Justice. The 2020 Theme is “Closing the Inequalities Gap to Achieve Social Justice.”

The day came into being after the UN General Assembly on 26 November 2007 declared that, starting from the sixty-third session of the General Assembly, 20 February will be celebrated annually as the World Day of Social Justice.

In 2020, the day comes at a time when peoples around Planet Earth are beset by the climate emergency, economic injustices and societal inequality, especially in the Global South’s States.

The worlds natural resources are subject to exploitation and benefit for a few individuals and corporates. Meanwhile, billions of people are mired in abject poverty and economic exploitation.

Inequality and injustice in the modern world create an unsustainable situation that results in social strife. According to the United Nations, “Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations.”

In the coming years as the world moves towards cleaner energy, new green jobs will need to be created to address social inequality.

Advocates4Earth, as a  non-profit environmental law, climate and wildlife justice organisation stands ready to join peoples around the world in fighting for social, economic and environmental justice. Be part of the fight.
